Does it define your existence, who you are?</div><div>Is it merely a reference point? What season of life is it when you are getting older, and your parents are older than you thought they would ever be?</div><div><br /></div><div>What a change from soliciting advice from your parents to giving advice, and hoping they will pay attention to what you say. What a change from thinking that you are living in a closed family system, and all of a sudden --- someone outside the family is not only giving advice, but also directives on how the family is to be structured!!</div><div><br /></div><div>There are positives to having someone outside the family giving advice, but I'm not sure there are positives to that outside person having authority that you never gave to them -- especially when it is government agencies. </div><div><br /></div><div>Yes, this season of life suggests some changes in my life -- and to take better care of the ones who took care of me all those years, I will gladly give in to the change, even embracing the change. But I will not let someone else dictate to me what my duties are as a son.</div><div><br /></div><div>This is also the season of life to be thinking about when I am older than I ever thought I'd be. To be involved while I still can, in deciding what is to be done with me later.
